Is Planning a Budget All That Important?

If at the end of every month it just doesn’t seem like you ever have any money left over, then yes it is time to start planning a budget to figure out where the money goes. If you don’t plan a budget then how else will you be able to figure out where you can save to eventually be debt free? You know that you should have a little of your money left over every month but it seems that you are just living paycheck to paycheck.  Does that sound like your situation?  Planning a budget is very important because it will help you to keep track of where your money goes every month. If you really want to be now living debt free then without a household budget, you are not going to be able to keep track of all your monthly expenses.

Planning a budget starts out by helping you to figure out where every penny is spent during the month. If your have some unhealthy financial habits, then planning a budget will help you to locate those areas of over spending.  You might just be shocked when you realize how wasteful you have been in spending your money on unnecessary items for the month. Take the total that you have spent on those unnecessary items for the month and multiply that times 12 to see how much money you could have been saving.  It may just surprise you!

Cutting what you spend at the grocery store or not eating out so often can really add up to a big savings. Just saving $10 a week, you would have $480 in a year or $2400 in five years plus interest. Save even more and your savings can be even larger.  If you hadn’t started a household budget, how would you have known where you could have been saving money and not had be so wasteful.

Planning a budget doesn’t have to be difficult. Make it a challenge and something that you want to accomplish.  Budget planning allows you to have a much better control over your finances and will help you to be more frugal with your money. Besides setting up a household budget, you also need to set some short term as well as long term financial goals for now living debt free.
