Our reasoning is that we can pay off the item in small monthly payments later on. If you don’t feel comfortable with cutting up the credit cards, then leave the cards at home when out shopping.  Another great suggestion would be to put the cards in a plastic bag, fill that bag up with water and pop it in the freezer.  Then the next time you want to use the credit card, you will have to thaw them out.  You might just find it way too difficult to even use the card in the first place.  Most people use a credit card for at the moment purchases.  The more difficult you make it to even use the credit cards then you are more apt to talk yourself out of purchasing that item.

Another solution on the question of how can I negotiate credit card debt reduction would be to get a debt consolidation loan.  With this type of loan, you can consolidate all of your credit cards into one loan with possibly a much lower interest rate.  By doing this, you can possibly save a lot on the interest which will go a long way towards any type of debt reduction.
