5 Steps to Living Frugally

If your goal is to start living frugally, then first off you will need to know your destination.  In other words you can’t stay on a path to becoming debt free with out first knowing what your goals are.  I don’t know how many times I have went to the grocery store and just wondered up and down aisles not knowing what I wanted to buy because I didn’t write down a grocery list before ever going shopping. In a lot of ways this is also true to living frugally. You will fail because you never set down a financial goal in the first place.  Once you have some goals set forth then it is a lot easier to follow the correct path towards living debt free. With out those goals, you will just be going around in circles.

The following are the 5 steps to living frugally:

Step one is to set up a debt free living goal.  With out a goal, you will not know the steps needed for living frugally. Always be sure to set up goals that you and your family can follow.  Never set up a living debt free goal that would be impossible for everyone to accomplish.

Step two is to stop taking every goal path that is presented before you.  If you follow every single living frugally path that you hear about, then you will be just spinning your wheels because this really is impossible to accomplish. We are all different so not everything works for each individual and their circumstances. What might work for one person doesn’t necessary mean it will also work for you.  Be patient in trying to find the best goal path for you to accomplish for living frugally as well as living debt free.

Step three is to always be searching for new paths to living frugally.  Now that you know your destination for being debt free, then it will be much easier to know how to get there. Living frugally is an ongoing challenge and something that should not be taken lightly. Living a debt free life should be an ongoing learning experience.  Like the saying goes about eating an elephant, you can accomplish this goal by taking one bite at a time.

Step four is to set up a budget that you as well as your family can follow. To accomplish a goal of living frugally, you also need to keep track of every penny that you spend.  Unaccounted for expenditures can get you in trouble because you need to stop the leak of an unhealthy spending habit for learning how to be living debt free.  A budget will help you to finally reach your goal of living frugally and being debt free.  Once everything is finally written down and the budget is now being followed, you can get a better grip on where you need to make some necessary changes. A budget will help you to decide what may be a necessary expenditure and what is not necessary.

Step five is to set up a savings account. When you are living frugally, always think about what happens to the money that you are saving.  For example if you save some money at the grocery store, then where does that extra saving go? Do you save that money or do you just spend it somewhere else foolishly. If you are making sacrifices by living frugally, then the best thing to do with the extra money would be to put it in a savings account.  Living frugally by cutting back on everything really just becomes a waste of time if you don’t use it to start getting debt free.

All these goals to living frugally really can be accomplished if you are willing to sacrifice and follow a path to becoming debt free.  This goal needs to be a commitment for the whole family and will be worthwhile in the long run once you finally start living debt free.
