Can You be Frugal and Still be Happy?
Is it really possible to be frugal and live a happy life? If you were living frugally, then it probably seem that you would be sacrificing a lot of happiness. Usually frugality and happiness don’t seem to go together in our society. For most of us, being frugal just doesn’t bring up any mental images of living a fulfilling life much less being happy. We probably think that frugal living would be more like a miser who lives in poverty. Once that person dies, we find out later that he was a millionaire. But in reality, someone can be frugal and live a very happy life.
By being frugal, you can now be living debt free and not have the financial burdens that can so often cause such a stressful life. You can also find happiness in realizing that you have accomplished a financial goal of paying off all of your debts.
Yes happiness can be found in living a frugal lifestyle. How happy are you right now if you are struggling to make ends meet or drowning in debt? Just think about how happy you will be once everything is paid off and you finally have money left over every month. Wouldn’t there be a sigh of relief to know that you have reached your financial goals? Maybe you don’t like the idea of living frugally because you don’t think you would be happy. But think about it, would someone that is drowning in debt be happy either?
A person that is frugal usually takes one step at a time by focusing on the ending goal of being debt free or the possibility of an early retirement. They don’t focus on what they didn’t get to buy such as that new car or the latest electronic gadget. What the frugal person focuses on is the fact that he now has money at the end of the month. In other words, he focuses on the important things such as reaching his financial goal. This financial goal is what keeps the frugal person going on to the next goal on the list. Being frugal can be a challenge by continuing reaching the next goal of being debt free.
Yes you can be frugal and still be happy! The happiness comes by knowing that you are now living debt free and the only expenses you have every month is your living expense. Wouldn’t that be a financial goal that all of us would love to accomplish.
